Welcome to Upwey High School
We are a medium-sized comprehensive secondary school, located in the Dandenong Ranges, 40 kilometres east of of Melbourne. Established in 1937, our school has a strong sense of local community and a history in the provision of education in the Dandenong Ranges. The school is in a magnificent mountain setting with beautiful views of the surrounding Dandenong Ranges. The site integrates well with the facilities of the adjoining Upwey-Tecoma Recreational Reserve.

School Buildings Include:
Years 7, 8 and 9 Learning Commons (Classroom areas each with associated Kitchen Facilities and Staff Work Area)

  • Well resourced Reading Centre and Classroom Libraries

  • Science and Technology spaces (Physics, Biology, Chemistry, Materials Technologies (Food, Wood, Metal, Electronics)

  • Presentation Space (250 seats)

  • Performing Arts (Drama Workshop, Recording Studio, Music Rehearsal rooms)

  • Visual Arts (Ceramics, Kiln room, Full-sized Photography Lab)

  • Sport (Outdoor Fitness Gym, Netball and Basketball Courts, Cricket Nets)

 Resources Include:

  • an extensive digital Learning Management System (in operation for 6 years – access over the web 24/7)

  • Years 9-12 students are all provided with a School Notepad Computer (on loan, free of loan fees or lease)

  • Years 7 and 8 students have Individual Notepads for use in their Learning Common

  • Outdoor Education Equipment (Mountain Bikes, Surf Equipment, Canoes, School MiniBus, Canoe and Bike and Camping Trailers)

  • Large range of other specialist equipment, including musical instruments and photographic equipment.

 

Upwey High School provides educational pathways for students in VCE, VET and VCAL programs, ensuring that the needs of all students attending this school are met.

Special programs include our challenging camps and tours program, the Instrumental Music program, the Volleyball program, the Student Talents program, the Surf Life Saving program (delivered in partnership with the Woolamai SLSC), the Music Industry program and the Year 9 New Horizons and Brave New Worlds program.

Other partners include our sister schools in Japan, Mito Eiko JHS and in Noumea, Magenta College. We are also proud to be a member of the Upwey District Educational Community (UDEC) and the Dandenong Ranges Network of schools.
