Assignment Planning & Writing

When planning assignments, the Library encourages teachers to visit the library to ensure that information resources held by the Library meet the requirements set in the assignment. If sufficient time is allowed the library staff have the opportunity to assist both you and your students by seeking relevant information resources in both print and electronic formats.

If you wish, a Research Guide & Planner, (example here) can be prepared by the Library staff to assist your students with locating relevant information resources on the topic of the assignment. Depending on your students or on the assignment needs different plans and guides can me created. Please contact us, either via email or in person at the Library and supply an electronic or print copy of the assignment.

We would appreciate 3 days to prepare a Research Guide.

We can also assist you in writing assignments to meet the 6-step approach to research, as taught to students undertaking the Information Literacy Program conducted by the Library. A generic assignment template using the 6-step approach to research is available for your use. An advantage of using this template is that your students will achieve more than an understanding of the assignment topic as they will simultaneously gain a greater appreciation of the research process.

Library Computers
Computers are available in the library for students during class time for booked classes and for students undertaking genuine private study. Please send only 5 students at a time to the library to use the computers.

Student Library Passes
Please ensure that a library pass is issued to students visiting the library from class, as it is often difficult to determine whether a note in a diary or on a slip of paper is legitimate. Some signatures and handwriting are difficult to decipher and students can be vague about the purpose of their library visit.

The information you provide for us means that we can be certain about the purpose of the library visit, and allows us to supervise the work that students are doing in the library more closely, reinforcing the role of the library as place for study and research.

The Library will accept up to 5 students from a class at a time.

Resource Boxes
The library staff can prepare resource boxes for your class to assist them with research on a a particular topic. Please allow 2 days for staff to prepare this for you.

Download a copy of the Project Box Request Form here.

English Class Sets
Class sets of English novels are stored in the Library. Should you wish to set a novel for your class please provide a class list to the Library Staff so that books can be issued to individual students BEFORE the class set tub leaves the Library. This helps the Library manage English Faculty class set collections, and ensures a better return rate from students when the novel is completed.
